Kesha's fifth album is here – Produced by Rick Rubin
Kesha has announced that her new album will be titled 'Gag Order' and will be released via RCA Records / Sony Music on Friday 19th May.
The album's first two singles, 'Fine Line' and 'Eat The Acid' will be released simultaneously on Friday 28th April.
The announcement comes after the completion of a 24-hour livestream on Instagram that counted down the reveal of the album's cover art and release date.
Kesha co-produced 'Gag Order' with Rick Rubin, the legendary co-founder of Def Jam Recordings and producer of many Red Hot Chili Peppers and Beastie Boys albums.
In a statement, Kesha said that 'Gag Order' is a 'post-pop' record that was born when she faced her emotional darkness head on.
"Gag Order" is characterized by Kesha as an "emotional exorcism" in which she finds empowerment through a baptism of fire in self-awareness and acceptance.
"Without darkness there is no light. So I let my darkness have the light. I can't fight the truth. Life is hard and painful. It's for everyone,” Kesha commented.
"An artist does not exist to make others happy. I believe that an artist gives voice, movement, color to the feelings we all have. The good feelings and the uncontrollable miserable feelings," he added.
'Gag Order' is Kesha's fifth album and follows 2020's 'High Road'.
The album's title (Shutting Down) is likely a reference to Kesha's years-long legal battle with producer Dr. Luke. In 2014, the singer sued the producer for sexual assault, asking the court to terminate her contract with him.
For a number of years, her appeals were repeatedly rejected by justice and her pleas to be released from Dr. Luke were not accepted.
All of the singer's albums since the litigation began, including the upcoming 'Gag Order', have been released by Dr Kemosabe Records. Luke.
Just a few months ago, a New York judge set a new trial date for the case, July 19, after key issues prevented the trial from proceeding to its previously scheduled February start date.
Kesha gives with the album cover a literal visualization of the phrase "silence order".
