NewJeans: Reviving Coca-Cola’s iconic ’80s jingle with “I Feel Coke”

Fun Fact: The song was originally a promotional jingle for the 1988 Seoul Olympics.

NewJeans, now known as NJZ, are back with a refreshed take on Coca-Cola’s classic commercial song “I Feel Coke” as part of a new collaboration with the brand.

The remake, released on March 13, is accompanied by a music video filled with references and tributes to the original ad. The song first debuted in Japan in 1987, featuring well-known Japanese artists.

The commercial later became a symbol of Japan’s economic boom in the 1980s and won several advertising awards. In 1988, the same song was adapted into a Korean version to support the Seoul Olympics.

"What always feels new is Coca-Cola / That ever-refreshing taste / I feel Coke," sing NJZ in the chorus, infusing the track with a nostalgic charm.

This re-release marks NJZ’s first musical project since announcing their name change earlier this year. The transition followed the group’s departure from ADOR and HYBE last November.

In addition, NJZ has started teasing new music through their independent Instagram account, where they’ve also unveiled new logos for the group and its members.

The band is also gearing up to debut original music at ComplexCon, their first live performance under the NJZ name. “This is a significant moment for us, and we can’t wait to share this new music with the world,” Minji said in a press release.

Meanwhile, NJZ members recently attended the first hearing regarding a temporary injunction filed by ADOR, which aims to block the group from pursuing independent commercial deals and operating freely in the entertainment industry. However, approximately 30,000 fans submitted a petition on March 13 urging the court to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that it only serves to prolong the members’ uncertainty.
