Jason Derulo shares that his son hears his music before it is officially released

Jason Derulo has shared that his son gets a sneak peek of his music before the rest of the world.

The singer, songwriter, and dancer revealed that his three-year-old son, Jason King, serves as his personal early audience, listening to his songs before they’re officially released. Appearing on *The Jennifer Hudson Show* on Wednesday, Derulo joked, “Yeah, he’s the new A&R,” referring to his son’s role in giving feedback.

The *Glad U Came* artist, who shares Jason King with his former girlfriend, model Jena Frumes, noted that his son’s feedback is refreshingly honest. “Sometimes you just have to let your kids do the job because they haven’t learned how to lie yet—they’re going to keep it real,” he told Hudson.

Derulo further explained, “If I ask, ‘Bubba, what do you think of this outfit?’ he’ll just say, ‘Nope, uh-uh,’” the 35-year-old said. “But if you ask a random person, they’ll probably just say, ‘Oh yeah, it’s nice.’”

Derulo and Jena, 31, began their relationship in early 2020 and announced they were expecting their son in March 2021. However, in September 2021, the *Watcha Say* singer announced their breakup on social media. Jena later alleged that Jason had been unfaithful and disrespectful.

This February, Derulo released *Nu King*, his first album in nine years.
