Billie Eilish's mother addresses 'Nepo Baby' accusations

Maggie Baird has dismissed claims that her daughter, Billie Eilish, is a "nepo baby."

In an interview for *Glamour* magazine's Women of the Year issue, the actress addressed a resurfaced clip of her appearing in a 1990s episode of *Friends*, which led some critics to argue that Billie's success was a result of nepotism. However, the 65-year-old made it clear that this was not the case.

"I think it's hilarious," she said with a smile. "When that came out, people started saying, 'Oh, Billie is a nepo baby.' And I'm like, 'Did you know I landed that *Friends* role because I was about to lose my health insurance?'"

Maggie married actor Patrick O'Connell in 1995, and together they are parents to Billie and songwriter/music producer Finneas O'Connell. While Maggie has experience in the acting world, she emphasized that navigating Billie's rise in the music industry was a completely different challenge.

"My husband and I are working-class actors. We scraped by with a modest income, which gave us lots of time with our kids. But the industry is filled with people like us or even those who couldn't make it work," Maggie explained. "So when this all happened to our kids, we had no idea how to manage it. People often don't realize that there's a whole community of creative individuals who are working hard, feeling fulfilled, but leading very different lives from those who make it big."

Maggie also highlighted the importance of family life for Billie and Finneas as they navigate their music careers.

"You step on stage in front of 100,000 people, and that's an hour and a half of your day. The rest of the time, you're at the dinner table, and your brother is giving you s**t. The family part is what keeps everything grounded," she added.
