Just over a week after being acquitted of all charges in his 2021 felony shooting case, A$AP Rocky is now facing renewed legal action in civil court.
On Wednesday, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge lifted the stay on the assault and battery lawsuit filed by A$AP Relli (real name Terell Ephron) against Rocky (born Rakim Mayers) and scheduled a trial date for January 12, 2026, according to Rolling Stone.
Relli’s attorney, Melisa Mikhail, attended the hearing virtually and confirmed that her client has no intention of dropping the lawsuit. She emphasized the lower burden of proof required in civil cases compared to criminal trials.
“We intend to continue the legal process on this case,” Mikhail stated.
“The evidentiary threshold in a criminal case is much higher than the preponderance of the evidence standard in a civil case. We continue to believe our claims are well-founded and intend to defend them fully.”
Rocky’s civil attorney, James Sargent, pushed back against the lawsuit, arguing that the case should not proceed given the rapper’s recent acquittal.
“Mr. Ephron testified at trial about the facts and circumstances,” Sargent stated.
“The jury’s acquittal speaks volumes about how they evaluated the evidence of his testimony.”
Originally filed in 2022, the civil lawsuit will move forward, with the next hearing scheduled for May 28.
