The Weeknd - Nothing is Lost

The video further bridges The Weeknd's song with the film.

The Weeknd releases the music video for his song 'Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)' for the movie 'Avatar: The Way Of The Water'.

Directed by Quentin Deronzier, the music video captures the mysterious allure of 'Avatar', while brief shots of The Weeknd are interspersed between scenes. Although the singer is not the protagonist, the video further bridges his song with the film.

The music video for "Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)" begins with a brief glimpse of The Weeknd shrouded in a blue mist before transitioning to an explosion of fire and transporting viewers to the landscape of Pandora, a fictional moon-like with Earth from the movie "Avatar: The Way Of The Water".

In the video, the Na'vi, a humanoid species from Pandora, are forced by a fire to fall into the water.

"Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)" was written by The Weeknd and produced by Swedish House Mafia along with composer Simon Franglen, who created the film's score.

The movie "Avatar: The Way Of The Water" was released in December and has already broken many records, including the record for the highest grossing film worldwide in 2022, surpassing "Top Gun: Maverick".

It has also grossed approximately $1.7 billion worldwide, according to reports, making it the seventh highest-grossing film of all time.

The Weeknd explained that his participation in the song for the new movie "Avatar" was like a moment when he came full circle in his life.

When the first movie came out in 2009, he was homeless and a high school dropout unsure of where his future would lead. However, the film was "a great escape" from his real life.

"This was probably the most difficult period of my life. I was almost homeless. I had dropped out of school. I didn't know if I would succeed as a musician. I didn't know if I could live to see tomorrow," he said.

“And I remember somehow managing to see the movie in theaters. I don't know how I got in. It was such an escape from my real life that the film has become tattooed on my brain,” he added.

Thirteen years later, Academy Award-winning director James Cameron specifically wanted The Weeknd to perform the film's song.

“They told me they only had one name on the list to do the song and that was me. I feel like it's kismet and it's a full-circle moment for me to be a part of something like this because it's a very important film for me," he said.

The Weeknd's "Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)" is among 15 songs up for this year's Best Original Song Oscar nomination. The nominations for the 2023 Academy Awards will be announced on Tuesday, January 24.
