Ed Sheeran & Elton John - Merry Christmas

December 15, 2021

Two of the biggest artists in the world, Ed Sheeran and Elton John, are launching the festive season with the brand new charity single "Merry Christmas".

The song, which is released by Atlantic Records / Warner Music, is accompanied by an enjoyable music video directed by Jason Koenig.

"Merry Christmas" offers us the perfect dose of Christmas merriment, full of sleigh bells, pleasant orchestrations and happy harmonies.

The song is completed by the tender lyrics of Ed Sheeran and Elton John, which intensify its festive glow.

"So, kiss me under the mistletoe / Put the wine toast and pray it snows in December / I know there was pain this year, but it's time to let it go / You never know next time, but for now, Merry Christmas".

"Merry Christmas", co-written by Ed Sheeran and Elton John, seals a ten-year friendship between the two artists, who are joining forces for the first time in an official single release. The song was produced by Steve Mac.

However, these are not their first holiday releases. In 2017, Ed Sheeran won the coveted UK No. 1 Christmas with his timeless ballad "Perfect", although it is not a Christmas carol, and Elton John's classic "Step Into Christmas" since 1973 has become one of the most popular Christmas carols of all time.

The official "Merry Christmas" video, written by Jason Koenig, Jenny Koenig and Ed Sheeran, adds extra sparkle to the song, as it pays homage to scenes from classic Christmas music videos and iconic Christmas movies.

With some help from British celebrities such as Mr Blobby, Jonathan Ross, Big Narstie, Michael McIntyre and The Darkness, Ed Sheeran and Elton John represent scenes from Wham's "Last Christmas"! , Shakin ’Stevens's" Merry Christmas ", Snowman's" Walking in the Air ", East 17's" Stay Another Day "and more.

Ed Sheeran and Elton John's global record and release rights to "Merry Christmas" and single sales proceeds over the 2021 Christmas season will be split in half between the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation and The Elton John AIDS Foundation of the two artists.

The Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation is a charitable music foundation that aims to help young people under the age of 18 living in Suffolk, UK, with small but useful financial support for their studies or involvement in music.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation was founded in 1992 and is one of the leading independent AIDS organizations in the world. The Foundation's mission is simple: end the AIDS epidemic. The Elton John AIDS Foundation is committed to combating the stigma, discrimination and neglect that prevent us from ending AIDS.
