Demi Lovato releases an original music video for the song "Melon Cake" on the occasion of his recent birthday.

Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, "Melon Cake" immediately magnetizes with its vivid images, which enliven the sincere lyrics of the song.

The music video premiered exclusively on Lovato's Facebook page on his birthday, August 20, along with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tribute to IGTV and a birthday playlist on Instagram.

"Melon Cake" comes from Lovato's critically acclaimed album "Dancing With The Devil… The Art Of Starting Over", which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Album Sales Chart and No. 2 on the Billboard 200 after its release by Island Records / Universal Music on April 2nd.

In the song, Demi Lovato describes how his previous team controlled his diet. The title of "Melon Cake" refers to the slices of watermelon with non-fat whipped cream that she ate on her birthday instead of a real cake, as nothing else was allowed.

In the lyrics he reveals that his former collaborators tried to transform Lovato "into Barbie size and I had to". He also claims that one of his team members was fired for bringing him chocolate.

"I used to eat watermelon 'cake' on my birthday instead of a real birthday cake. "It was this watery, nutritious version of the birthday cake that was basically lean whipped cream or coconut cream on a cake-cut watermelon," he described in an interview with Apple Music.

Demi Lovato once again enjoyed a real cake on her 27th birthday, in August 2019, which she celebrated with her new manager, Scooter Braun, attending an Ariana Gande concert in London.

"This may seem trivial to someone who has not struggled with eating problems, but for someone like me who has overcome it, I came out of my comfort zone eating a real birthday cake. "It was a big step for me and I wanted to celebrate it," he said of the importance of "Melon Cake".
