U2 lean fully into theatrical imagery for “The Greatest Show On Earth,” giving the new song an official video that feels closer to a surreal short film than a conventional performance clip. Directed by Anton Corbijn, the visual was filmed in the California desert and places the band inside a strange, ritualistic world built around masks, faith and spectacle.

Shot entirely in black and white, the video strips away the bright colors usually associated with the idea of a carnival and replaces them with something more severe. Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. appear as members of a masked religious cult, while women around them are shown doing the physical work. The setup gives the video a deliberately satirical edge, playing with ideas of authority, performance and devotion.

That imagery suits a song described by the band as the story of lovers trying to keep faith in each other while also holding on to faith itself. The lyrics move between romance, disappointment and self-awareness, with Bono treating love almost like a performance that has become impossible to separate from ego and illusion.

Musically, “The Greatest Show On Earth” is built on a large scale. Co-written by U2 and Brian Eno, the track expands gradually, with The Edge’s guitar becoming one of its defining elements. The production gives the song the sense of grandeur suggested by its title, but the lyrics repeatedly undermine that scale with references to failure, regret and relationships that once felt indestructible.

Corbijn’s visual approach plays directly into that tension. Rather than presenting U2 as straightforward rock icons, the video exaggerates their image until it becomes something almost absurd. Masks, ritual and desert isolation create an atmosphere that is both serious and knowingly theatrical.

“The Greatest Show On Earth” follows “Silencio” and “Street Of Dreams” as another preview of Carnaval De Luz, U2’s 16th studio album. The record also includes “Torn,” featuring Dolly Parton’s final recorded performance, and “The Mirror Maker (Rosalía),” a song inspired by the Spanish artist.

The video also arrives as U2 prepare to return to full-scale stadium touring in 2027, with Larry Mullen Jr. back after surgery. That makes the song’s title feel especially fitting. U2 have described the track as a challenge to themselves to create the kind of live experience that mixes showmanship, color, guitar, bass and drums on the biggest possible scale.

For now, though, the video takes that idea in the opposite direction. Instead of color and stadium spectacle, “The Greatest Show On Earth” begins with dust, monochrome imagery and a mysterious cult in the desert — an intentionally strange introduction to what could become one of the defining songs of U2’s next chapter.

Running for just 2 minutes and 35 seconds, “Silencio” is described by the band as an homage to early surf-punk insolence. The track combines a raw, fast-moving attitude with the experimental side of U2, while additional production comes from Ryan Tedder. Its lyrics move through images of silence, faith, fear and unrest, giving the song a tense, restless quality beneath its energetic surface.

The release is accompanied by an official music video, extending the visual world surrounding the band’s new era. “Silencio” had already been known to fans after U2 were heard working on the song during filming sessions in Mexico City earlier in 2026, including at the historic Salón Los Angeles.

The track also arrives during a significant anniversary year for U2. In September 2026, the band marked 50 years since Larry Mullen Jr. placed the notice at Mount Temple Comprehensive School that led to the group’s formation. That milestone now coincides with a particularly active period, with U2 planning to release 24 new songs across 2026.

Carnaval De Luz contains 12 tracks and explores themes including spirituality, friendship, freedom and endurance. Produced primarily by Jacknife Lee, the album also features contributions from Brian Eno, Martin Garrix and Daniel Lanois, placing “Silencio” within one of the band’s most collaborative projects in years.

The song's visceral intensity generated enthusiastic reactions from their fans, who flooded Muse's social media with messages begging the band to release the single.

Muse premiered 'Kill Or Be Killed' at various festivals this summer, including their appearance at Athens' Olympic Stadium as part of the 'EJEKT Festival' on June 29, saving the song for the night's encore .

Responding to the overwhelming 'will of the world', Muse have decided to release 'Kill Or Be Killed' ahead of the release of their new album.

Matt Bellamy said: "Kill Or Be Killed" is Muse at their heaviest! We wanted to refresh our hard rock sound on this album and with 'Kill Or Be Killed' we found a modern metal sound that includes a double bass drum and even a death growl."

"Lyrically the song is influenced by my favorite Paul McCartney song 'Live And Let Die', a dark take on how life's adversities can sometimes bring out the worst human survival instinct cost," he added.

As Matt Bellamy famously sings: "Fate drives me crazy / Makes me face / That I must kill or be killed"

The music video for 'Kill Or Be Killed' was directed by Ben Lowe and consists of live footage of Muse performing the song during their recent concerts.

Muse have already released the songs 'Won't Stand Down', 'Compliance' and the title track 'Will Of The People' from their upcoming new album this year.

"Here Comes The Shock" comes a year after the release of the 13th studio album of the successful rock band, "Father of All…" (February 2020).

In September 2019, Green Day signed a two-year deal with the NHL, under which they debuted the song "Fire, Ready, Aim" from the album "Father of All…" during a league match of the same name. , while in early 2020 the band sang in the NHL all-star game.

While "Here Comes The Shock" is the first Green Day song in a year, the band members have not been inactive all this time.
