Watch the Rolling Stones sing the Beatles in Liverpool

The Rolling Stones' 60th anniversary tour as a band stopped at Liverpool's Anfield Stadium on Thursday night, June 9th.

Five songs after the start of the concert, the Rolling Stones honored the heroes of the city, the Beatles, with the classic song "I Wanna Be Your Man", which has been recorded by both legendary bands.

We had decided to rehearse a special version of "You'll Never Walk Alone". "But instead we decided to play a cover of a song written by other young men in the area, so we're going to play it especially for you," Mick Jagger told the audience.

Gerry and the Pacemakers' "You'll Never Walk Alone" is played before the kick-off of every Liverpool football game at Anfield. The Beatles and Gerry and the Pacemakers were brief rivals on the Liverpool Merseybeat stage in the early 1960s.

Also, the media of the time considered that there was a rivalry between the Beatles and the Stones, but in reality the members of the two emblematic groups maintained friendly relations.

In 1963, the Beatles gave the Rolling Stones "I Wanna Be Your Man" as soon as they wrote it. "I Wanna Be Your Man" was the Stones' second single and reached number 12 on the UK charts.

The Beatles released their own version of the song a few weeks later on the album "Meet The Beatles".

The Rolling Stones withdrew "I Wanna Be Your Man" from their live show schedule in early 1965, but restored the song to concerts in 2012 on three touring stages for their 50th anniversary as a band.

This was the first time the Rolling Stones played "I Wanna Be Your Man" in a decade and the first known time they had performed it in Liverpool.

Paul McCartney sang "I Wanna Be Your Man" during three VIP soundcheck appearances on his "Got Back" tour of America in April and May, and Ringo Starr presents it every night during his tour with All Starr Band.

The European leg of the Rolling Stones's "Sixty" anniversary tour will conclude on July 31 in Stockholm, Sweden.

In their first gigs, the Rolling Stones have featured unusually many songs from the '60s, such as "Out of Time", "Get Off Of My Cloud" and "19th Nervous Breakdown". They also rehearsed for "Mother's Little Helper" in 1966, but have not yet performed in public.
