U2’s guitarist, The Edge, has hinted that the legendary rock band is poised to release new music, revealing that they are currently in a creative sweet spot. Speaking on the Sodajerker on Songwriting podcast, The Edge shared exciting news about an upcoming track:
"There might be a new song happening very soon, which you’ll hear about. Can’t say any more than that. We’re in a great place creatively."
The band’s most recent single was 2023’s standalone release, Atomic City.
A Focused Approach to Songwriting
The 63-year-old musician also delved into his evolving creative process, explaining how he’s embraced the discipline of presenting more complete ideas to his bandmates—Bono, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.—to avoid wasting time on tracks that lack potential.
"I sort of tricked myself," he said. "I was going, ‘Okay, this is for The Edge solo album, so … you can’t be, like, leaving these things half finished. It doesn’t have to have finished lyrics, but it needs to really hang together.’ And that extra discipline, I think, has been very useful."
He added: "Now that we’re doing some U2 sessions with that material, it looks like it’s paying off. We know, ‘Yeah, that one really does have some potential here.’ We still might end up changing it around a lot, but we’re not gonna waste our time on an idea that was never gonna work."
Touring Plans on the Horizon
Following the success of their 40-night U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency, which wrapped up in March, The Edge revealed that the band is eager to reconnect with fans around the globe.
"We’re hoping to get to do some shows. The Vegas run was fantastic, but we didn’t get to see much of the world. We’re looking forward to hooking up with our fans where they live, as opposed to them having to come to us."
With new music on the horizon and plans to take their show on the road, U2 are proving they remain a force in the music world, ready to innovate and inspire both in the studio and on stage.
