The gay kiss on the stage of the BET Awards 2021

June 29, 2021

Lil Nas X's bold move received rave reviews, but there was no shortage of homophobic reactions.
Lil Nas X made one of the most explosive appearances at the BET Awards 2021 on the night of Sunday 27 June with his song "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)".

The American rapper appeared as an Egyptian Pharaoh wearing a gold ensemble on a backdrop of pyramids, hieroglyphics and sphinxes.

The show, which was a tribute to Michael Jackson's choreography and looks from the "Remember The Time" music video, continued with Lil Nas X meeting his dancers for some really great breakdown moves.

Lil Nas X then climbed a ladder placed on the set and stood in front of his throne, before turning his head to the dancer standing next to him to give him a kiss on the mouth.

The audience at the "Microfost Theater" in Los Angeles reacted with applause, while some stood up to applaud the 22-year-old artist.

Fans praised the rapper via Twitter, thanking him for presenting such a queer moment during his appearance, however, there were many cases where Lil Nas X received homophobic comments.

"Do not use African culture for nonsense like this! "Respect our ancestors," one user wrote, to provoke the rapper's incredible response: "You really like to pretend that homosexuality did not exist in African culture," Nas said.

While commenting on his appearance on the red carpet at the BET Awards 2021, Lil Nas X responded with a sarcastic mood: "We are provoking the castration of men in 2021".
