SZA Ties Adele's Record With 'SOS'

SZA's "SOS" completed ten total weeks atop the Billboard 200.

As we come to the end of the first quarter of 2023, nothing seems to be able to stop the historic success of SZA's 'SOS' album.

'SOS' completes a total of ten weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 and is just the eighth album to achieve this feat in the last decade, and the first since Adele's '25' (2016).

It's worth noting that over the past ten years, only three albums by women have spent at least ten weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200: SZA's "SOS," Adele's "25" (10 weeks in 2015-16), and "1989" by Taylor Swift (11 weeks in 2014-15);

After surpassing 400 million streams in the US in its very first week of release, 'SOS' became the second-most-streamed album by a female artist in a single week and the third-most-streamed album overall for 2022.

To date, "SOS" has recorded more than 5.9 billion streams worldwide, with 3.5 billion streams in the US alone.

Meanwhile, the single 'Kill Bill', SZA's biggest hit of her career to date, climbed to No. 1 on Spotify's global chart, stayed at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for several weeks, and is currently on the No. 3 on both charts.

In Greece, "Kill Bill" has already gone gold, while still remaining in the Top 5 of the IFPI International Digital Singles Chart.

On top of all that, SZA's debut album, 2017's 'Ctrl,' went triple platinum in the US and has remained on the Billboard 200 since its first week of release.

"Ctrl" also holds the record for the longest-charting album by a black artist, having completed 295 weeks on the Billboard 200 to date.

'SOS', which was released on December 9, is SZA's second solo album.

The album includes songs such as 'Nobody Gets Me', 'Shirt', 'Good Days', 'I Hate U' and of course 'Kill Bill', but also collaborations with artists such as Travis Scott, Don Toliver, Phoebe Bridgers and Ol' Dirty Bastard among others.
