"Carried Away is about the nervousness you feel when you meet a new person and fall in love for the first time," Surf Mesa told a news release. "Working with Madison was a dream. "I hope this song will spread love during this time when we need it more than ever."

Madison Beer adds: "When I write love songs, I am often drawn to the ups and downs and pain that can result from a relationship that has ended badly. It was refreshing to explore the other side of love for "Carried Away", the feeling of excitement you get when you meet someone for the first time and fall in love with them. "I'm so grateful to Surf for making the whole process so much fun."
