Shawn Mendes returned to the stage after a year and a half

Shawn Mendes has canceled his 2022 tour to focus on taking care of his mental health.

Shawn Mendes is back on stage after a year and a half.

The 24-year-old singer joined Ed Sheeran on stage for a surprise appearance during the British pop star's concert in Toronto, Canada on Saturday (June 17).

In a joint Instagram post by the two artists documenting the preparation for their duet, Shawn Mendes noted that it had been "a year and a half" since he last took the stage.

"Man, I feel crazy," said Shawn Mendes while rehearsing with Ed Sheeran.

Shawn Mendes had moved in July 2022 to cancel his tour to focus on taking care of his mental health.

The video posted by the two pop stars continues with Shawn Mendes and Ed Sheeran sharing their feelings and impressions backstage after their appearance together on stage at the Rogers Centre.

"I started shaking, I was saying "what the hell...". I'm a little speechless at the moment to be honest…” commented Shawn Mendes.

"What a reaction," Ed Sheeran said, adding: "I've had this three times in my life at concerts - with Paolo Nutini in Glasgow, Stormzy in London and now with Shawn Mendes."

Ed Sheeran also admitted on social networks that he would like to remember forever the reactions of the audience from their presence on stage.

“Toronto. What a moment. Me and Shawn Mendes on stage in his hometown,” the 32-year-old singer wrote.

“I wish I could seal that feeling in a bottle and keep opening it to feel that excitement again, it was so much fun. Thank you for singing with me man, it was so nice to have you back,” he continued.

Shawn Mendes also returned to the label earlier this month with a surprise song about climate change.

The song titled "What The Hell Are We Dying For?" it was written amid the recent wildfires raging in Canada that have smothered many parts of the US, including New York, with smoke, causing serious air quality concerns.

In February, Shawn Mendes spoke to the WSJ. Magazine about his "very difficult," but ultimately beneficial, decision to cancel his "Wonder: The World Tour last year" last year.

The singer said he was prompted to cancel his planned concerts by the time he spent in therapy while trying to sort out everything that was bothering him.
