As promised, Shawn Mendes is releasing new song 'Heartbeat' for the soundtrack of his upcoming family film 'Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile'.
Shawn Mendes lends his voice in the film to Lyle, a crocodile who loves singing, bubble baths, caviar and good music.
The film also stars Javier Bardem, Constance Wu, Brett Gelman, Scoot McNairy and Winslow Fegley.
Shawn Mendes' name is mentioned in a total of 8 songs on the soundtrack of the film "Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile", which also features his co-stars Constance Wu and Javier Bardem, as well as Anthony Ramos.
Classic songs such as Elton John's 'Crocodile Rock' and Stevie Wonder's 'Sir Duke' are also included.
In the trailer for 'Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile', Shawn Mendes sings an original song by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the acclaimed and award-winning creators behind the musicals 'The Greatest Showman', 'Dear Evan Hansen' and 'La La Land'.
Will Speck and Josh Gordon's film, based on Bernard Waber's 1965 children's books Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, follows Lyle the Crocodile on his adventures in New York.
When the Primm family (Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, Winslow Fegley) moves to New York, young son Josh struggles to find his footing in the new school and new friends. But everything changes when she discovers Lyle (voiced by Shawn Mendes) in the attic of the new house.
The two quickly become best friends, but when Lyle is threatened by grumpy neighbor Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), the Primm family must stick together as an orchestra and in company with Lyle's charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti (Javier Bardem ) to prove to the world that family can be found in the most unexpected places, even in the face of a singing crocodile with a heart of gold.
Shawn Mendes marks his first feature film cast with 'Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile', and as he has stated, the musical aspect of the film was what encouraged him to expand his career.
"I was able to do what I do best, plus I identify so much with his story and his character that it felt natural," she told People.
"When I was approached to help create the music for the adaptation of such a classic book, it was a no-brainer and it was a really fun departure from what I'm used to," he continued.
"But the hardest thing is when you're singing for a movie instead of your own album, you really have to perfectly capture the nuances of emotion behind each line and each note and match it with how the character will portray it on screen . It was a learning experience," Shawn Mendes said.
The soundtrack to "Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile" will be available for streaming starting October 7, the same day the film opens in US theaters.
The film will be released in Greek cinemas on November 17 under the title "Lyle, My Friend the Crocodile".
