Sabrina Carpenter has shared why she initially believed her hit single Espresso would flop, despite its massive success.
The song not only became Spotify's most-streamed track of the year with over 1.6 billion streams but also topped charts globally and was named BBC Radio 1's Song of the Year. However, the 25-year-old singer admitted she was convinced the timing of its release would hinder its success.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Sabrina explained, "I remember deciding to release this song at the beginning of summer and thinking, espresso—coffee—is more of a fall beverage."
Despite her doubts, she trusted her instincts about the song. "I really didn’t know if it would connect, but the sentiment, the sound, and the confidence it carries were things I truly believed in," she said. "I had no idea if anyone else would like it, but I liked it, and in that moment, that was all that mattered to me."
Hinting at more music in the works, Sabrina teased, "I’m always thinking a year ahead. As I was creating Short n’ Sweet (her 2024 album), I was already considering what might come next. That’s all I’ll say for now."
