Rolling Stones: The Ultimate 'Forty Licks' Compilation Is Out Digitally For The First Time - And On Limited Vinyl

The first Rolling Stones greatest hits collection.

The Rolling Stones' Forty Licks, the album that collected dozens of the most timeless and iconic songs from their unparalleled career and added four then-new songs to their incredible history, will be released digitally for the first time on July 26.

Two days later, it will be available, again for the first time, in a lavish four-disc limited edition, on 180g black vinyl, which will come in a spacious gatefold sleeve.

At the same time, Rolling Stones fans will also have the opportunity to enjoy Dolby Atmos® remastered versions of the album's 40 songs on streaming, where available.

With Dolby Atmos, fans will enjoy an immersive listening experience of the iconic album as the details in each song are revealed with unparalleled clarity and depth.

'Forty Licks' was originally released in September 2002 to celebrate the Rolling Stones' 40th anniversary and the launch of their massive 'Licks Tour'.

With this massive extravaganza, staged on the astonishing scale that only they could create, the Rolling Stones criss-crossed the globe for the next 14 months and performed 117 concerts.

The 'Licks Tour' became the second highest grossing tour in history up to that time.

The "Forty Licks" collection, which clocks in at over 2.5 hours, includes 20 Rolling Stones singles that reached the US Top 10, of which 13 reached the Top 5 and seven reached No. 1, including 'Satisfaction', 'Miss You', 'Brown Sugar', 'Paint It, Black', 'Honky Tonk Women', 'Get Off Of My Cloud' and 'Angie'.

UK chart performance for "Forty Licks" songs was fairly similar with 20 singles appearing in the Top 10, 16 Top 5 singles and seven at No. 1.

Rolling Stones UK chart-topping songs include 'The Last Time', 'Jumpin' Jack Flash' and 'It's All Over Now', as well as 'Satisfaction', 'Get Off My Cloud', 'Paint It, Black' and 'Honkey Tonk Women'.

After its initial release, 'Forty Licks' sold seven million copies worldwide and has since been regarded as the ultimate anthology of the Rolling Stones' recording career.

It was the first compilation to bring together station songs from all periods of their unparalleled discography, from their early releases through Decca UK and London US (ABKCO Records) to the establishment of their own Rolling Stones Records.

With the release of 'Forty Licks', both longtime and new fans can enjoy a flashback to the 1960s hits that made The Rolling Stones icons for generations to come.
