Pharrell Williams comments on Rihanna's new songs.

Pharrell Williams shared details about the production of Rihanna's ninth studio album.

The singer, rapper, songwriter and producer appeared on Rick Rubin's "Broken Record Podcast" and was asked about his collaboration with Rihanna on her next album.

"Oh yes, at the end of the day she really is what she wants… She is interested in the sound, I was trying to make something that looked like her and had her feel. "He talks about what he wants to feel and then it's my job to reverse it mechanically; the priority is emotion," Pharrell said.

"We are mechanically reversing this feeling and trying to turn it into something," he continued.

"You just dive in and follow it. It does not take much time to find it. You have coordinates, you know where you are going, you know what you are looking for, you will understand when you got there. "We have the right creators for the right kind of tone and myself, so we just like to fight and push until we feel we've done it right," he explained.

Pharrell Wiliams also talked about the process by which they write songs with Rihanna and revealed if they start with the lyrics or the melody first.

"It is the melody and then we hear what the melody says; if some words arise in places where there are no words, you somehow get the feeling of what you are trying to communicate and find the words and make a mosaic," he described.
