Olivia Rodrigo recently shared a story of being interrogated by U.S. border police due to a mistaken identity incident.
The *Good 4 U* singer was returning to the U.S. after her *Guts World Tour* shows in Canada when she was unexpectedly pulled aside for questioning in the middle of the night.
"I got in trouble with the law for the first time in my life," she explained on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon* on Tuesday. "We were crossing from Canada to somewhere like Portland. We’re at border control, I hand over my passport… they knock on the door and say, ‘We need Olivia.’"
The 21-year-old, groggy at 3 a.m., assumed the officers wanted an autograph but found herself escorted into an interrogation room.
"He asks, ‘Have you ever been arrested?’ I’m like, ‘No, I haven’t been arrested,’ and he presses, ‘Are you sure?’" she recalled, saying she even began doubting herself. "He warns, ‘You know, you could go to jail for lying to a federal officer. This is serious.’ I started freaking out, thinking, ‘I’m not gonna get let back into America!’ I was so scared, practically having a panic attack."
After a tense 30 minutes, the officer realized Olivia had been mistaken for a similarly named felon.
"He asks me, ‘What’s your name?’ and I go, ‘Olivia Rodrigo. R-O-D-R-I-G-O,’ and he goes, ‘Oh, there’s a girl around your age with a similar name—Olivia Rodríguez—who’s been arrested multiple times,’” she recounted. "I was so mad! Like, you didn’t check the name before questioning me for half an hour?! But, crisis averted."
Olivia's *Guts World Tour* kicked off in February and concluded earlier this month. A concert film documenting the tour debuted on Netflix this Tuesday.
