As anticipation builds for a long-awaited Oasis reunion, fans have reignited their love for the band by voting “Live Forever” the greatest British song of all time.
The poll was conducted by Radio X as part of its 10th annual “Best of British” countdown—and this isn’t the first time the iconic anthem has taken the top spot. For the third year running, the timeless track from Oasis’s debut album holds firm at No. 1.
With a world tour looming on the horizon, Oasis are firmly back in the spotlight. The band dominates the Top 100 list with 16 entries—more than any other artist. Tracks like “Wonderwall,” “Morning Glory,” and “The Masterplan” continue to prove that the band’s music not only endures but thrives in the hearts of fans.
Queen’s legendary “Bohemian Rhapsody” landed in second place, while The Stone Roses surged to fifth with “I Am The Resurrection.” Sam Fender’s “Seventeen Going Under” roared back into the Top 10 at No. 7, and the list rounds out with Arctic Monkeys’ “505” and Amy Winehouse’s “Back to Black” in ninth and tenth respectively.
A standout moment came from The Stone Roses again, with “Fools Gold” leaping 68 places to reach No. 11. Sam Fender also made waves with the highest new entry of the year—“People Watching”—debuting at No. 21 following the release of his latest album.
Manchester continues to assert itself as the musical capital of the UK, with artists from the city (including Oasis, The Smiths, and Joy Division) accounting for 34 songs—39% of the total votes.
Radio X Managing Editor Matt Deverson summed it up best:
“‘Live Forever’ could only be No. 1. With Oasis reigning once again, the public has made it clear: their return is the most eagerly anticipated music event of the year.”
