Robbie Williams claimed to have been the target of a hitman at the height of his career.
The 47-year-old singer, who started his career with the boy band of Take That, revealed in a new interview that there was a "contract" for his murder.
"I have never, ever said that, but there was a contract to kill me. I have never said this in public. Canceled. I have friends. "These are the unseen things that happen when you become famous," he told The Mirror.
"At some point in my life I was ridiculously famous, famous as Michael Jackson," he continued.
"I became famous when I was 17, I made a boy band when I was 16, the boy band took off. "When I was 21, I left and then I made a solo career, I sold 80 million albums and I had the record for most tickets sold in one day for a tour," he said.
Robbie Williams then referred to the stress and depression he experiences as a by-product of "extreme success".
"Extreme reputation and extreme success meet stress and depression and mental illness. "There are some levels of reputation and the consequences for you," he explained.
"There are some more that I do not remember, but the fourth level is acceptance. In a way you resist being taken away from your private life and you resist it by trying to be normal, you try to be normal but you will also look small so that you are not hit. "I'm an asshole, do not bother me," he said.
"I want to go to all the normal places I can not go because they want to kill me. "It takes me a while to reach acceptance," he added.
