Elton John shares the 'most embarrassing moment' from his time in rehab

Elton John has opened up about what he considers the "most embarrassing moment" of his time in rehab.

In an interview for Time magazine's Icon of the Year feature, the Cold Heart singer revealed his struggles with a simple task during his stay at a detox center. "It was the most embarrassing thing in my life when I went into treatment," Elton shared. "I couldn't work a washing machine."

The singer, who was in his forties when he entered rehab in 1990 to address substance and alcohol addiction, said his age made the situation even more humiliating. "I thought, 'Fk. Here you are at 43 years of age, and you can't work a washing machine.' That shows you how you're fked up," he admitted.

Now 77, Elton reflected on the importance of confronting his issues before seeking help for his addiction, particularly to cocaine. "It's tough to tell someone they're being an ahole, and it's tough to hear," he said. "Eventually, I made the choice to admit that I'm being an ahole."

Elton also voiced his opposition to the legalization of marijuana, which has been approved in several U.S. states and Canada. "I maintain that it's addictive. It leads to other drugs. And when you're stoned—and I've been stoned—you don't think normally," he explained. "Legalizing marijuana in America and Canada is one of the greatest mistakes of all time."
