Liam Payne's former One Direction bandmates have shared their heartbreak over his tragic passing.
The 31-year-old singer died on Wednesday, October 16, after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
On Thursday, the remaining original members—Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik—released a touching statement in his memory.
"We are completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, when we’re able, we will have more to say. But for now, we need some time to grieve and come to terms with the loss of our brother, whom we loved dearly," the statement said.
"The memories we made with him will be cherished forever. Right now, our hearts go out to his family, friends, and the fans who loved him as much as we did. We will miss him deeply. We love you, Liam."
The message was signed by Louis, Zayn, Niall, and Harry.
One Direction, formed in 2010 on the UK TV show *The X Factor*, rose to global fame with hits like "What Makes You Beautiful," "Little Things," "History," and "Story of My Life." The band went on hiatus in 2015 after achieving worldwide success.
Payne is survived by his parents, Karen and Geoff, his sisters Nicola and Ruth, and his seven-year-old son Bear, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Cheryl.
