Why Mark Ronson Banned Bradley Cooper From Taking A Lady Gaga Song For 'A Star Is Born'

Bradley Cooper had visited Lady Gaga in the studio and was thrilled with what he heard.

Mark Ronson wouldn't let Bradley Cooper use Lady Gaga's 'Joanne' in 'A Star Is Born'.

The British producer explained that he was working with Lady Gaga on her fifth album, also called 'Joanne', at the same time that the singer was preparing to film with Bradley Cooper the remake of the classic film 'A Star Is Born' is born).

Bradley Cooper, who made his directorial debut with A Star Is Born, visited the recording studio at the time and was thrilled by what he heard.

But while Mark Ronson knew Bradley Cooper was "a big star", he was determined to keep the song for Lady Gaga's album, he told NME.

“We were working on Gaga's 'Joanne' album and Bradley Cooper came into the studio one afternoon. I like his movies. He showed up looking like a movie star. So we sat down with him," he recalled.

“He was very sweet, talking about the new movie they were both doing. I played him the song 'Joanne' and he said, 'That's great, can I have it?'" she recalled.

“I know he's a big star and all, but I really liked that song. And I needed it for Gaga's record," he added.

As a compromise, Mark Ronson agreed to find time in his schedule to work with Lady Gaga on another song for the 2018 film A Star Is Born.

Mark Ronson then recalled the exact moment he knew Shallow was going to be a hit.

“We were working in this incredible studio in Malibu – Rick Rubin's studio, the Shangri La – and he had this really long hallway that had echoes,” he said.

“I have this very clear memory of Gaga's voice coming from 10 meters away, sounding so excited about something as she walked in. He sat down at the piano and began to sing: "I'm off the deep end...", he added.

"Shallow," performed as a duet by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in their film "A Star Is Born," won both the Academy Award and the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
