Depeche Mode will release a brand new 12” singles box set for their album 'Sounds Of The Universe' on August 4th.
The collectible deluxe box set 'Sounds Of The Universe | The 12” Singles” contains ten 12” vinyls of the singles “Wrong”, “Peace” and “Fragile Tension/Hole To Feed” along with B-sides, remixes, instrumentals, dub versions and other recordings made for the twelfth album of the band, 'Sounds Of The Universe', which was released in April 2009.
This new box set features a wide range of radio, club and dub remixes from Depeche Mode among others, as well as unreleased material compiled specifically for this release that was available on CD maxi singles during the album's release and promotion period .
When it came time to record 'Sounds Of The Universe', Depeche Mode returned to the studio with producer Ben Hillier, with whom they had created 'Playing The Angel' in 2005.
'Sounds Of The Universe' is another major addition to the band's vast repertoire and continues this series of limited edition box sets.
From the early days of their music career, Depeche Mode showed that they strongly believed in the unique power of each single by releasing it on 12 inch vinyl.
The 12-inch singles gave the band another reason to get extra creative with their physical identity and aesthetic.
Depeche Mode used the singles discography as a means to deliver unique remixes, rare B-sides, remarkable live recordings and additional material exclusively for their fans.
The first two box sets of the series – "Speak & Spell" | The Singles and 'ABroken Frame | The Singles” – released in August 2018, while subsequent releases – “Construction Time Again | The 12” Singles” and “Some Great Reward | The 12” Singles” – followed in December of the same year.
Then the 'Black Celebration | The 12” Singles” and “Music For The Masses | The 12” Singles” were released on May 31, 2019, while in 2020 “Violator | The 12” Singles” in July and “Songs of Faith and Devotion | The 12” Singles” in October.
The ninth release in the series was 'Ultra | The 12” Singles”, on September 27, 2021, the tenth release was “Exciter | The 12” Singles” on June 10, 2022, while the most recent, eleventh, release in the series was “Playing The Angel | The 12” Singles”, which is available from November 2022.
Each box set in the series includes the singles from every Depeche Mode album on 12-inch vinyl, with upgraded sound sourced directly from the original tapes.
Each single features the original cover, while the box cover is inspired by the aesthetics of the respective album.
After the release of 'Sounds Of The Universe | The 12” Singles”, their own box sets are also expected to acquire the next two Depeche Mode albums, “Delta Machine” and “Spirit”, to complete the series of these rich box sets within the next 12 months.
