Selected photographs will be presented in exhibitions in various cities around the world before the auction.
Photos from Madonna's provocative "SEX" photo album will be auctioned in New York in October.
The auction titled 'Madonna x Meisel – The SEX Photographs' will offer over 40 erotic photographs from the iconic album 'SEX' which Madonna released in 1992 in collaboration with photographer Steven Meisel.
Prior to the auction, a selected series of photographs will be shown in exhibitions at Christie's in London from 23 May to 2 June, at Christie's in Paris from 27 June to 6 July and at Christie's in New York from 30 September until the auction is held on October 6.
"SEX" caused a sensation at the time of its release with Madonna's provocative photos and erotic texts in which the queen of pop starred in the role of the dominatrix character Mistress Dita.
In addition to Madonna, rappers Big Daddy Kane and Vanilla Ice, model Naomi Campbell, gay sex movie star Joey Stefano and others appeared in the sensual photos.
Madonna originally released 'SEX' on October 21, 1992 as a follow-up to her fifth album 'Erotica', which featured sexually charged singles such as the title track, 'Deeper and Deeper', 'Bad Girl' and ' Fever'.
"SEX" became the fastest selling coffee table book of all time.
In 2022, Madonna and Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello celebrated the 30th anniversary of "SEX" with the first reissue of the book in a limited edition of 800 copies and with an exhibition organized during last year's Art Basel in Miami .
A portion of the proceeds from the auction will go to support Madonna's non-profit organization Raising Malawi.
“The much-deserved buzz and hot energy that Madonna radiated in the early 1990s was conveyed and captured through Steven Meisel's photographs. She knew how to capture the allure and sexiness of the pop queen in a way that's unmatched," said Darius Himes, Christie's Deputy Chairman and International Head of Photography.
"In the 30 years since her infamous book 'SEX' was published - which was created exclusively in collaboration with Meisel - what has become clear is how truly iconic these photographs remain," he said.
“They are at a moment in late 20th-century art history that both epitomizes a moment, playful and prophetic, and points to the future of public celebrity driven by image-conscious personalities. These images are nothing short of extraordinary,” he added.
