The Weeknd's new series will premiere in June.
The Weeknd created the official soundtrack for his upcoming series 'The Idol' drawing inspiration from Pink Floyd and Prince.
The series, which is a creation of The Weeknd and Sam Levinson of "Euphoria," is set to premiere on HBO on June 4.
In a recent interview with Interview magazine, The Weeknd revealed his plans for the soundtrack to 'The Idol' and revealed which albums and soundtracks he drew inspiration from for the project.
"I've been inspired by 'The Wall' and 'Purple Rain' and when Bowie sang it," he said during his conversation with American playwright Jerremy O. Harris.
"But even in movies like 'Shaft,' the music literally tells the story of the movie. But I want to take it to the next level,” The Weeknd continued.
“I want to challenge myself and I feel like, as a musician, I'm at the best I've ever been. But I'm distracted. I can't just focus on that," he said.
Elsewhere in the conversation, The Weeknd confirmed that a "full album" of music for "The Idol" will be released.
"I don't avoid making music. I'm just adding one more item to my already packed schedule,” he said.
The Weeknd gave a small taste of 'The Idol' soundtrack on Twitter last week. In a short video he posted, he stood behind a studio mixing console, watching a group of string musicians play in the room.
Before "The Idol" premieres on HBO in June, the series will be screened in the out-of-competition portion of the Cannes Film Festival, which runs May 16-27.
Alongside the announcement of the premiere of 'The Idol', the series' fourth teaser has been released, focusing on the introduction of the two lead characters played by The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp.
The teaser follows aspiring pop star Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) as she tries to reclaim her throne after a nervous breakdown with the help of self-help guru and nightclub owner Tedros (The Weeknd).
