Dove Cameron auditioned for role of Ariana Grande in 'Wicked'

"It was one of the biggest processes I've been a part of."

Dove Cameron revealed in a new interview that she auditioned for the big screen adaptation of 'Wicked'.

Speaking to The Wrap during an event for the second season of 'Schmigadoon!' of Apple TV+, the singer confirmed that she was in the running for the role of Glinda, which eventually went to her friend Ariana Grande.

“I definitely went to claim it. I know that for all those who went to claim it, it was a very long process. It was one of the biggest processes I've been involved in," he said.

However, despite losing out on the role of the Good Witch of the North, Dove Cameron holds no grudges against Ariana Grande, who she co-starred with in 'Hairspray Live!'

“I'm so excited for Ariana. She is a really dear friend of mine. We met when we were very young. I think he will succeed," he emphasized.

Instead, Dove Cameron enters the dangerous world of "Schmicago" for the second season of the Apple TV+ musical series alongside Cecily Strong, Keegan-Michael Key, Aaron Tveit, Alan Cumming, Ariana DeBose, Ann Harada and the original star Kristin Chenoweth's 'Wicked' Broadway musical.

"That was the era of musicals that I grew up in, and 'Cabaret' was a huge influence on me," Dove Cameron said during a panel held in North Hollywood to promote 'Schmicago' at the Emmy Awards.

"Obviously, to me Liza Minnelli is the most sacred person, as I know she is to a lot of people," he noted.

"And when I heard about (creator) Cinco's (Paul) inspiration for Jenny's character, I was equally terrified and very, very honored and just wanted to start trying to even scratch the surface of trying to get it right." , Dove Cameron added.

Meanwhile, according to a recent post by Ariana Grande, 'Wicked' is about halfway through filming.

The beloved musical will be brought to theaters in two films. The first part is scheduled to be released in November 2024 and the second part in 2025.
