Kim Petras announces collaboration with Nicki Minaj

Kim Petras' new song will be released later this month.

Kim Petras meets Nicki Minaj on her new single 'Alone'.

The sassy German pop princess announced the surprise collaboration via social media on Thursday, April 6.

In a video she posted on Instagram, Kim Petras is in a luxurious room filled with artwork and a lit fireplace, with a vintage baby pink phone on the polished oak table in front of her.

When the phone rings, she picks it up only to lip-sync to Nicki Minaj's voice, who says, “Yeah! It's Barbie and it's Kim Petras!” in an excerpt from 'Alone'.

The song uses a sample from the classic club hit 'Better Off Alone' by Alice Deejay released in 1998.

Kim Petras' new single 'Alone' featuring Nicki Minaj is due for release on April 21st.

'Alone' will follow the singles from Kim Petras' upcoming third full-length album and her first under her record deal with Republic Records.

In January, Kim Petras released 'brrrr', followed in November 2022 by 'If Jesus Was a Rockstar' produced by legendary Swedish producer Max Martin.

Kim Petras sang "brrrr" at Billboard's Women in Music Awards early last March.

At the event in Los Angeles, Kim Petras was also awarded the Chartbreaker Award and in her speech called for body autonomy and "real equality" for women.

Meanwhile, earlier this week Kim Petras and Sam Smith's hugely successful 'Unholy' collaboration surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify.

'Unholy' is Sam Smith's fifth song to break the one billion stream barrier on Spotify and Kim Petras' first in her career.

Among many other awards, "Unholy" won the award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group at the 2023 Grammy Awards in February – making Kim Petras the first transgender singer to win the category in the event's 65-year history.
