Selena Gomez: 'Lose You To Love Me' Is Her First Solo Song With 1 Billion Spotify Streams

The emotional ballad 'Lose You To Love Me' continues to give Selena Gomez hits.

Selena Gomez has hit a new milestone on Spotify.

Her 2019 hit 'Lose You To Love Me' became her first solo song to break the 1 billion streams barrier on the streaming service.

Spotify announced the news on Twitter, writing: “All the love to Selena Gomez. Congratulations on 1 billion streams of "Lose You To Love Me".

The streaming service also posted about the milestone on Instagram, with Selena Gomez reposting it to her account's stories and commenting with one word: "Grateful."

Although "Lose You To Love Me" is Selena Gomez's first solo song to amass 1 billion streams on Spotify, overall it is the fourth song of her career to achieve this feat.

Her collaborations with Kygo on 'It Ain't Me' (2017), Marshmello on 'Wolves' (2017) and DJ Snake, Ozuna and Cardi B on ' Taki Taki" (2018).

"Lose You To Love Me", which was released in November 2019, was also Selena Gomez's first song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, even debuting at the top of the chart.

The song was featured on Selena Gomez's follow-up album 'Rare' in January 2020 and also peaked at No. 1 of the USA.

The lyrics of "Lose You To Love Me" refer to the pain of leaving behind a relationship that has ended.

However, they have a message of empowerment as the chorus repeats the phrase "I had to lose you to love me", implying that sometimes we have to go through difficult times in order to learn to love ourselves and grow.

“When I wrote the song, I was kind of a mess,” Selena Gomez told Billboard of “Lose You To Love Me” in early 2020.

"It was really difficult for me. And when we shot the music video at the end of the year, it took on a whole different meaning and was so liberating. It was really fun for me – I think because I let it go, it actually meant I let it go in me too,” she explained.

"And I couldn't have asked for a better way to close a chapter in my life," he said.
