Louis Tomlinson reveals his honest feelings about One Direction's breakup and Harry Styles' success.
Louis Tomlinson admits One Direction's break-up left him feeling "humiliated".
Speaking to The Times newspaper, Louis Tomlinson admitted it took him time to process the end credits to the popular band in 2015.
“When One Direction broke up I was humbled, I was completely heartbroken. I was a little bitter, I guess because it felt like another loss. But now I understand things better and there is not so much anger. It is what it is,” he recalled.
One Direction, which consisted of Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Liam Payne, originally formed on Britain's 'The X Factor' in 2010 and made an immediate splash, becoming an overnight global sensation .
But in 2015, everything started to change for Louis Tomlinson – and not for the better.
The band announced that they will be taking an 18-month hiatus that has lasted seven years. The following year, his mother, Johannah Deakin, died of leukemia. Two years later, his 18-year-old sister Félicité died of an overdose.
Although Louis Tomlinson stated that he is not sure if he is at a point where he could reunite with the remaining members of One Direction, he stated that he could imagine a reunion of the band in the future.
"It's hard to imagine right now that we'll ever get together again. But I'd be surprised if in all our lives there wasn't a moment when we had a reunion, or whatever you want to call it. I would be up for it,” he said.
“I miss the boys and I definitely miss being one of the five, but I like doing my own thing too. The time has come," he added.
After the breakup of One Direction, like the other members of the band, Louis Tomlinson started a successful solo career. He has released two solo albums, 'Walls' in 2020 and 'Faith In The Future' in November 2022, which reached No. 1 in the UK and at No. 5 in the US.
Still, Louis Tomlinson couldn't help but compare himself to Harry Styles, who has won three Grammy Awards and six BRIT Awards in his solo career.
“Well, it's no surprise, is it?. We've always known that Harry fits that mold and it's been amazing to watch," he said.
Louis Tomlinson also didn't hesitate to admit his honest feelings about Harry Styles' success.
“Envy? In the beginning maybe, when I was trying to find my footing, but it's never healthy to compare your own success to others, is it?'' he said.
Commenting on his self-esteem and success, the 31-year-old singer added: “These days I'm learning to pick myself up when I need to. I didn't know how to do this before, but now? Now I know I can do it."
