Ava Max's personal confession.
Ava Max almost gave up on her music career before it even started, as she had a "mental breakdown" in 2018.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Ava Max shared a story she kept to herself for nearly five years. "No one knows this, but I had a nervous breakdown," he revealed, noting that it happened when "Sweet But Psycho" came out.
Ava Max was desperate for a song that would make her stand out and remembers getting down on her knees to pray for its success.
"I was like, 'God, please, if you're listening. I have to pay for my gas. My parents, I want to buy them a house. I just want to help the people I love and I want to sing on big stages and I want to have fans and I want people to identify with my music,'” he recalled.
"I was shouting this at the top of my lungs... I said, 'If Sweet but Psycho doesn't do anything, I'm done,'" added the 28-year-old singer.
After that outburst, Ava Max described standing up, wiping away her tears and saying to herself, “Oh, my God. Concentrate."
Her prayers were answered, as 'Sweet but Psycho' became a huge hit internationally. The song reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has gone four times platinum in the US, three times platinum in the UK and multi-platinum in several other countries.
Now Ava Max is counting down to the release of her sophomore album, 'Diamonds & Dancefloors', which will be revealed on Friday 27th January.
Although she has carved out a successful music career, Ava Max emphasizes that she owes everything to her parents, who left Albania in the 90s.
"If they didn't risk their lives, I wouldn't be here," she said, adding that her parents immigrated to America "with nothing" and worked multiple jobs to achieve the "American dream."
Their work ethic, Ava Max said, inspired her to never stop trying and fighting in her life.
