TikTok has released the list of the most popular songs on its platform for 2022, as part of this year's overall review.
Whether it was new songs or returning classics, the songs on For You's feeds had us hitting repeat over and over again.
In 2022, the most popular songs on TikTok came from established, up-and-coming, and up-and-coming artists, spanning a spectrum of genres as diverse as the platform's community itself.
The most popular song on TikTok worldwide for 2022 is 'Ginseng Strip 2002' by Swedish rapper and singer Yung Lean which was originally released in 2013.
The TikTok community created 8.9 million videos using dazy's Nicky Youre's 'Sunroof', which is the most popular song on the app in the US for 2022, while they couldn't get enough of 'Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)' by Kate Bush from 1985 which returned to the charts after appearing in the hit Netflix series 'Stranger Things'.
"We're honored to celebrate our global community that shaped this year's trends, shared new ideas, learned from each other, and turned their passions into careers and livelihoods throughout 2022," said Vanessa Pappas, General Chief Operating Officer of TikTok.
"We were truly inspired to see over a billion people around the world showing their creativity and coming together to experience joy and find a sense of belonging on TikTok," he continued.
“People flock to TikTok to be entertained, but so much everyday magic permeates the platform: creating careers, building brands and opening the door to real, tangible success. This year's review includes the many paths to discovery that help us enrich our lives with creative knowledge," added Marisa Hammonds, General Manager of TikTok for North America.
“Congratulations to all the creators, artists and small businesses featured in this exhibition and thank you to our community for making 2022 an important year!” he said.
