Ed Sheeran is set to release a new song titled 'Celestial' in collaboration with Pokémon.
The song is expected to be released on all digital platforms next Thursday, September 29.
"To celebrate the new Pokémon song 'Celestial' I got a new tattoo," Ed Sheeran said in a video he posted to social media, which features a short clip from the upcoming single.
Ed Sheeran then revealed that he got a new Squirtle tattoo on his arm.
“I think it's a perfect fit, yes?” she captioned the post.
Ed Sheeran also revealed in another post the official cover art for 'Celestial': a sketch of himself with Pikachu on his shoulder.
The British singer then addressed his lifelong love of Pokémon since childhood.
“I started with Pokémon cards when the craze hit elementary schools when I was about 7 years old. Then the TV series came out on TV, so I tried to record it on the same VHS tape every week,” he recalled.
“After that me and my brother shared a Game Boy and Pokémon Blue. I got a Game Boy Color with Pokémon Yellow for my eighth birthday, the word obsession is an understatement. Turning 31, I still have the same Game Boy Color and still play Pokémon Silver on long haul flights. I really really love it,” she wrote.
Ed Sheeran added that the Pokémon animated series offered him "a real escape as a kid into a fantasy world" and noted: "In adulthood it's the nostalgia that makes me feel like a kid again."
“I met the Pokémon people when I was traveling in Japan and we joked that I would write a song about them. But here we are now," he continued.
“Celestial comes out next Thursday and the video is absolutely stunning, animated by the incredible folks at Pokémon. I love it, you will too. And 'we gotta catch 'em all,'" he said, using the franchise's "Gotta Catch 'Em All" tagline.
In November 20121, Ed Sheeran made a virtual appearance in the Pokémon Go game environment shortly after the release of his fourth and most recent album '=' (Equals).
