Adele won her first Emmy this weekend.
The 34-year-old singer proudly posed with the Emmy statuette a day after the 2022 Creative Arts Emmy Awards, where TV's 'Adele: One Night Only' was one of the night's top winners.
“Damn, I'm so pleased! Thank you Ben Winston for bringing this to me this afternoon! Trust me I officially have ME,” Adele wrote on Instagram, making a pun on her Emmy, Grammy and Oscar (EGO) wins.
Adele won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Extraordinary Variety Program (Taped), while "Adele: One Night Only" swept four other Creative Arts Emmy categories.
Paul Dugdale, the director of Adele: One Night Only, won the award for Outstanding Direction for an Extraordinary Variety Program, while the show also took home the awards for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Series or Extraordinary Variety Program, Outstanding Lighting Design/Direction Lighting for Emergency Program Miscellaneous and Excellent Technical Direction, Camera, Video Control for Emergency Program.
Other nominations in Adele's category were: "Dave Chappelle: The Closer" (Netflix), "Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts" (HBO/HBO Max), "Norm Macdonald: Nothing Special" (Netflix) and “One Last Time: An Evening With Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga” (CBS).
Adele had already won 15 Grammys and an Oscar, so now she only needs to get one Tony to become an "EGOT" – winner of an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony, that's four of the most important American entertainment awards.
However, it should be noted that the Tony Awards are for plays in Broadway theaters.
A Tony Award away from "EGOT" is also after the 2022 Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony Eminem and Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr of the Beatles.
"Adele: One Night Only," which aired in November 2021 on CBS, was a taped concert by the British singer at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. Adele performed ten songs, including four songs from her latest album '30' and also gave an interview to Oprah Winfrey.
“Thank you very much Television Academy, it is a great honor for me to receive this award. A big well done to everyone involved. Griffith Observatory, thank you for letting me sing on your mountain and I send lots of love to all the other nominees,” Adele said in a separate statement.
Ben Winston and Raj Kapoor, two of the executive producers of "Adele: One Night Only," will also executive produce the 2023 Grammy Awards, where Adele is expected to make a major appearance.
