New Queen Music? Brian May keeps the door open

More than three decades after their last studio album, Queen might be gearing up for a return. Legendary guitarist Brian May recently hinted at the possibility of new music, sparking excitement among fans of the iconic band.

Queen's most recent album, Made in Heaven, was released in 1995, four years after Freddie Mercury’s passing. Since then, the band has evolved, first with Paul Rodgers as lead vocalist in 2004, and later with Adam Lambert, who joined in 2011. Lambert continues to tour with Queen, with their most recent performance taking place in Tokyo in 2024 as part of the Rhapsody Tour.

In an interview with MOJO magazine, May acknowledged the potential for new material. “I think it could happen,” he said, noting that he and drummer Roger Taylor still write and experiment in the studio. “I might have a song in front of me now that could become a Queen song. The question is whether the idea will develop and mature—whether the seed can germinate.”

May’s remarks echo similar sentiments from Taylor last year. The drummer had expressed openness to releasing new songs, stating, “We can still play, we can still sing. Why not?”

In 2022, May also revealed that he and Lambert had “experimented a bit” with new material, though nothing had fully taken shape. However, Lambert has admitted feeling pressure when it comes to recording under the Queen name, emphasizing the challenge of meeting the band’s legendary standards.

While no official release has been confirmed, it’s evident that Queen’s creative spark is still very much alive. Whether this will translate into new music remains to be seen—but for now, the possibility is enough to keep fans eagerly anticipating what’s next.
