Lana Del Rey 'seriously considered' quitting music after falling into 'abyss'

"I had no choice but to continue."

Lana Del Rey 'seriously' considered quitting music after feeling 'failed'.

The 38-year-old singer, who played a gig at London's BST Hyde Park at the weekend after pulling out of last month's Glastonbury show, admitted she had "no choice" but to keep making music even in moments of doubt herself.

“I never forget the abyss, those moments when nothing worked, when I seriously considered giving up. There was a real sense of failure," he told the Daily Star's "Wired" column.

However, Lana Del Rey admitted that she continued to pursue music because she had no other viable career options.

“I had no choice but to continue because I don't know how to do anything else. Courage would be to disappear," he said.

“But since I was already famous, I took the easy way out. I kept making records. There was no alternative plan," he continued.

Lana Del Rey also praised female artists such as Billie Eilish, whom she called a "good person" and "divinely talented", who express themselves through their music.

"In pop music, women finally have the right to express themselves, their experiences," she noted.

“What I did at first – they would have been crucified if they had done it before. But I am very specific. And that's the key to making something universal," he added.

"I don't care if I play the wrong role, I don't conform to what is expected of a pop singer. What I want is to stay true to the exact moment when the music comes to me," he emphasized.

Lana Del Rey has faced constant backlash and criticism throughout her career, especially for her insistence on themes that seem anti-feminist to some listeners.

In May 2020, Lana Del Rey faced backlash for going after artists like Beyoncé, Ariana Grande and Doja Cat who scored No. 1 hits with songs about "being sexy" and "not wearing clothes", stating that she is "fed up" with critics who claim she "idealises abuse" in her music.
