Kim Petras: "Unholy" changed everything for me

"It's crazy how quickly these things can happen."

After topping the Billboard Hot 100 with "Unholy," Kim Petras and Sam Smith are up for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group for the song.

Kim Petras reveals that she and Sam have yet to celebrate their nomination in person, but still can't get over the impact 'Unholy' has had on her career.

“We got to celebrate the Grammy nomination together though, so I'm looking forward to that. But of course, I've been celebrating with my friends and my dogs and ... it's just been such a crazy experience," she told ABC Audio.

"'Unholy' changed everything for me and I'm very grateful. And it's just crazy how quickly these things can happen," he added.

Kim Petras pointed out that she and Sam Smith had been trying to work together for four years, but "Unholy" was the song that satisfied them in everything they wanted.

“We had a special feeling about the song when we created it. "'Unholy' was that song that felt right and we both said, 'Yeah, that's the song,'" he recalled.

"We got in the studio together, had a few drinks and just released 'Unholy' and it felt special from the day it was born," he continued.

"He's just the most precious baby and people love him," she said with a laugh. "We were hoping it would cause that reaction."

But chart positions and award nominations aside, Kim Petras, who has been releasing music since 2008, believes that 'Unholy' is a great opportunity to be introduced to those who may never have heard her before.

“This song is definitely the gateway to my world, to my music. And a lot of people are discovering my discography for the first time, which is really exciting, because I've been waiting for a moment like this to happen," he said.

Following 'Unholy', which has gone platinum in Greece and completed five weeks on the IFPI International Digital Singles Chart, Kim Petras recently released her new single 'If Jesus Was A Rockstar'.
