Khalid sang during the coverage of the space flight of the British billionaire businessman Richard Branson.

The launch and flight was broadcast on Sunday 11 July by Virgin Galactic via a live stream hosted by presenter Stephen Colbert.

Khalid accompanied the launch of Richard Branson's spacecraft performing for the first time a new song entitled "New Normal", which will be officially released on July 21, while after the return of "VSS Unity" to Earth, the singer presented a short festive program.

The R&B star appeared in front of a small audience at the "Spaceport America" space center in New Mexico, USA.

After his program ended, Khalid spoke with Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, who asked him about the overall experience of his appearance at the first commercial space center.

"It simply came to our notice then. I think we all feel that way now for this season. But it is true, it is the new normal. "We have to get used to it, because we will see a lot more to come", said the singer.

Khalid added that he hopes to gain the "confidence" to travel in space. When Chris Hadfield asked him what he would take with him into space, the singer replied: "One of my best friends gave me a crystal for my birthday. I would take the crystal with me. "I really love my friends."

Before appearing on livestream, Khalid said he was "excited" to be involved in "this historic event".

"It has always been a dream of mine to travel in space and it is incredible that Virgin Galactic is working to make space accessible to humans for exploration in the near future," he said.

My new song "New Normal" is about all these new trips we make after so many changes during the pandemic. "The future is now, everything is changing and this new normal that we all live in is proof that we can find our way in difficult times," he explained.

"It's so nice to know that Sir Richard Branson and all the mission experts will hear the song on their journey," he said.

The "Unity 22" mission was the 22nd VSS Unity test flight and the fourth Virgin manned flight. It was also the first space flight with a crew of two pilots and four specialized astronauts, including the company's founder, Richard Branson.

"The pilots and crew of 'Unity 22' open the door to a new generation inspired by space. "Khalid is an extremely talented, global artist and influencer who brings a shared passion for space and obstacle removal," said Michael Colglazier, CEO of Virgin Galactic.

"We are excited that she sang during Virgin Galactic's livestream to honor this step forward in bringing space travel to a new regularity for future generations," he said.
