Kendrick Lamar and SZA make chart history again with “Luther”

Kendrick Lamar and SZA are rewriting the record books—again. Their latest collaboration, “Luther,” has officially tied Kendrick’s own mega-hit “Not Like Us” by spending 22 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

The achievement cements the duo’s dominance in 2024–25, as “Luther” becomes only the second track in history to maintain that top position for such a stretch. It’s more than a chart-topping single—it’s a cultural moment, fueled by the emotionally rich yet sonically charged chemistry between two of music’s most dynamic voices.

SZA, who previously held the record with “Kill Bill” (21 weeks at No. 1), returns to the peak of the genre with “Luther,” showcasing once again why her artistry continues to define the modern R&B landscape.

Currently touring together on the much-hyped Grand National Tour, Kendrick and SZA have struck a rare balance—blending lyrical depth with mainstream appeal, and consistently landing hits that move the culture forward.

Despite a slight dip in week-to-week metrics—16.7 million U.S. streams, 2,000 digital downloads, and 60.5 million radio impressions between May 16–22—“Luther” held firm across Billboard charts. It remains No. 1 on the Hot Rap Songs chart for a 22nd week, second only to “Not Like Us” (26 weeks).

While “Luther” recently stepped down from its 13-week reign atop the Billboard Hot 100—passing the torch to “What I Want” by Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae—it still marks the longest-running No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 for both Kendrick Lamar and SZA.
