Twenty years after releasing their anthemic hit “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” Green Day are seeing another dream come true—this time, in the heart of Hollywood.
The legendary punk rock band will be honored with their own star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday, May 1, at 11:30 a.m. (local time). The ceremony will feature special appearances by tennis champion Serena Williams and actor Ryan Reynolds, with MTV host and music producer Matt Pinfield serving as the emcee.
Green Day’s star will be placed at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, right next to the iconic Amoeba Music record store—an especially fitting location that reflects the band's punk/rock ethos. Fans can watch the ceremony live via the official Walk of Fame website.
Comprising Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool, Green Day have etched their name into music history. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, the band has earned five Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year in 2006 for “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.”
Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame, remarked, “Green Day’s music has inspired generations and soundtracked the lives of millions. We are proud to welcome Billie Joe, Mike, and Tré to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.”
Formed in Berkeley, California in 1986, Green Day have released 12 studio albums, with three—American Idiot (2004), 21st Century Breakdown (2009), and Revolution Radio (2016)—reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200. On the Billboard Hot 100, they’ve charted two Top 10 hits: “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”
This year, Green Day electrified more than 200,000 fans as headliners during two Saturday nights at Coachella—another resounding testament to their enduring power and cultural relevance.
