Gerard Piqué breaks his silence on his split with Shakira

"I'm still doing what I want," Gerard Piqué said of his life after breaking up with Shakira.

Gerard Piqué breaks his silence on his much talked about split with Shakira after 11 years of relationship.

In a new interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais, the 36-year-old veteran footballer talked about his life after his breakup with the pop star.

When asked how the split affected him, Gerard Piqué focused the conversation on the two children he has with Shakira, 10-year-old Milan and 8-year-old Sasha.

“I won't say, I don't want to say. Everyone has their responsibility to do the best for their children," he said.

"The point is to protect them. This is the job of all parents with their children. That's what I focus on and that's my role as a father," he added.

Gerard Piqué, who made his relationship with new partner Clara Chia Martí Instagram official in January, also addressed the ongoing publicity surrounding his high-profile breakup with Shakira and the backlash he's received in the meantime.

"The problem is how people perceive things or how the press presents them. I'm still doing what I want," he said.

"I want to be consistent with myself. I'm not going to waste money to clean up my image," continued the former Barcelona ace.

"The people I love and worry about those who know me. I don't care about the rest. I focus my energy on the people closest to me and give them everything I have. I am very happy. There have been changes in my life and I know how to maintain that happiness," he explained.

Shakira and Gerard Piqué announced the end of their long-term partnership in June 2022.

Earlier this year, Shakira released the viral song 'BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53" in collaboration with Argentinian DJ Bizarrap, with which he attacked Gerard Piqué for their breakup.
