Paul McCartney welcomed the Foo Fighters to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The Foo Fighters joined the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the 2021 class, the first year they were eligible.
This is the second time the band's frontman, Dave Grohl, has become a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, as he rejoined Nirvana in 2014.
The Foo Fighters were welcomed to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday, October 30, by Paul McCartney.
In his speech, the Beatles legend drew parallels between the love he and Dave Grohl have for rock, the bands with which they became famous and the way in which they began their successful solo careers.
As Paul McCartney recalled his own achievements and compared them to those of Dave Grohl, he had to stop several times because the audience erupted in applause.
Then the six members of the Foo Fighters took the floor, thanking their loved ones for their support over the years.
Dave Grohl said: "I'm usually the guy who talks a lot. I did not prepare any speech because I thought to make it short. For the last 25 years I have been saying simply "blah, blah, blah… rock & roll… blah, blah, blah". So I would like to say that the best thing about being here tonight is that I am surrounded by our family. And when I say that because if anyone knows how the Foo Fighters work, the people we are and have worked with, 20, 25, 30 years have passed and we are united as a family. "
"And I think that's important, because you do it together, not just because it's a job, but because you love each other. And so there is a whole section of our extended family for the last 25, 30 years that I have to thank. But I must also thank my wonderful family, that without my wonderful family I would not be as happy as I am, so I love you very much and thank you very much. And I have to thank these people (s.s. the members of his band), because we would not be here tonight if it were not for each of these Foo Fighters. And we did it ", he added.
The Foo Fighters also took to the stage of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum to present a short program of their hits.
The band could have chosen any song, but it started with a very relaxed version of "Best of You". Dave Grohl screamed as if he were already in the encore, getting a boost from Taylor Hawkins' frantic drums and the dynamic guitars of Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear.
Without a pause, the Foo Fighters went straight to "My Hero", another rock & roll explosion and closed with the song that has become their trademark, "Everlong", in a more punk version.
But despite the stormy rhythm of "Everlong", Dave Grohl stopped the song suddenly near the end, creating a moment of tension that broke with his cry: "Once again! Here we are!".
After their speeches, Foo Figthers returned to the stage, where Paul McCartney accompanied them for a cover of the Beatles' "Get Back". The performance of Foos showed respect for the original song, while for his part, Paul McCartney seemed excited to perform the 1969 single again, with a twinkle in his eye.
