Eve Hewson: Bono's daughter rejects her father's singing advice for her new film

"He offered and I said, 'No, thank you.'"

Eve Hewson has revealed that she rejected her father and U2 frontman Bono's advice about the scenes she had to sing in her new film 'Flora And Son'.

The 31-year-old actress plays the lead role in the musical comedy-drama, written and directed by John Carney.

Set in Dublin, the film follows single mother Flora (Hewson) as she tries to connect with her troubled teenage son Max (Orén Kinlan) through music.

Flora is helped to learn singing and songwriting by online guitar teacher Jeff (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) from Los Angeles, who boosts her confidence.

Eve Hewson told Variety about her singing scenes: "It was probably the biggest fear I've ever had, and it ended up being something I'm very proud of."

Asked if she got any advice from her father Bono, Eve Hewson replied: “I've learned so much from him, in terms of presence in life, presence on stage. But I didn't ask him for help"

"He offered and I said, 'No thanks.' He's a really good singer, so I said, 'No, no, no,'" he continued

“I grew up with music, so it was kind of natural for me. I kind of liked being on stage, being the first person. I texted him and said, 'I understand why you like this, it's kind of fun,'" she said.

"Flora And Son" premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival on January 22.

After the film was well received, Apple TV+ reportedly bought the streaming rights to "Flora And Son" for "just under" $20 million, according to Deadline.

Eve Hewson recently played Becka in the Apple TV+ series Bad Sisters, which also stars Sharon Horgan, Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle and Sarah Greene. The series was renewed for a second season in November.
