Elton John: Why he never appears without glasses

Elton John explains why he won't part with his glasses.

Elton John never appears without his iconic glasses because he feels "exposed" without them.

The 76-year-old pop legend is rarely seen without his favorite eyeglasses or sunglasses and has never taken the stage without glasses in the past 40-plus years.

Speaking to The Sunday Times newspaper, Elton John has categorically stated that audiences will never see him take to the stage bare-faced again.

“I tried it in the early eighties, but I felt exposed. Glasses give me confidence. I'm not myself without them," he explained.

During the interview, Elton John's husband David Furnish revealed that the singer owns thousands of pairs of glasses and most of them are kept in storage.

"I've probably worn more pairs of glasses than anyone else in the world and I know what makes a quality frame," added Elton John.

Elton John has launched his own line of glasses, but he's not wearing any of his own models during his 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road' farewell tour because he has a contract with Gucci to wear the fashion house's glasses on stage

The 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road' tour concludes with two shows in Stockholm on July 7 and 8, but Elton John has clarified that he will continue to perform in the future, he just won't be doing any more big tours.

“It's not a farewell to concerts, just to tours. There may be some individual concerts in the future. It's not exactly a goodbye," he said.

The final stop of Elton John's UK tour will be a headline appearance at the famous Glastonbury music festival later this month, for which he has many surprises in store.

During an interview with BBC Radio 2 last month, Elton John said of his appearance at Glastonbury: "It's come at the right time, I'm a big believer in luck and fate and it's the most wonderful way to say goodbye to England."

"I'm going to have guests and I can't tell you who they are," he added, without sharing more details.
