Elton John has revealed that he is struggling with significant vision loss, leaving him unable to see.
At a gala performance of his new musical The Devil Wears Prada, for which he wrote the lyrics, the legendary artist shared his condition with the audience. "As some of you may know, I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven't been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed it," he said.
He added, "I haven’t been able to attend many of the previews. It’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it, and it sounded great tonight."
During his remarks, Elton expressed gratitude to his husband, David Furnish, calling him "my rock."
In September, the singer disclosed that a severe eye infection he contracted in July while vacationing in France had left him blind in his right eye and with only "limited vision" in his left.
The gala performance of The Devil Wears Prada, which recently debuted in London’s West End, was organized to support the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The event attracted notable figures from the fashion world, including Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who is said to have inspired the character of Miranda Priestly.
In the production, Priestly is portrayed by American model and actor Vanessa Williams.
