Whispers of a potential duet between Sir Elton John and Madonna are stirring behind the scenes of the music industry—sparked by comments from Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters.
From Rift to Reconciliation
Speaking on Nick Grimshaw’s Sidetracked podcast, Shears hinted at a collaboration between the two icons, teasing: “All I’ll say is, what Elton has up his sleeve is incredible. And that sleeve is big.”
The suggestion comes after years of public tension between the two artists. At 66 and 78 respectively, Madonna and Elton John have both thrown sharp jabs over the years. But according to a recent Instagram post by Madonna, the ice has thawed—especially after Elton’s appearance on Saturday Night Live.
“I always felt like an outsider growing up, and seeing him on stage helped me realize it’s okay to be different,” she wrote. “It hurt for decades that someone I admired so deeply expressed such dislike for me so publicly.”
Elton has echoed that sentiment, saying, “I’m grateful we’ve moved on. The division I see in the world saddens me more and more.”
Elton: The Passionate Critic
Shears also painted a portrait of Elton as a brutally honest—but fiercely passionate—music lover. “Sometimes I’ll play him a track thinking he’ll love it, and he’ll say, ‘Absolute garbage. Worst thing I’ve ever heard,’” Shears laughed. “But when he loves something, you know it. He’s expressive. He fills you with energy.”
What to Expect
If the song Elton reportedly wrote for Madonna does turn into a full duet, it could become one of the most anticipated pop collaborations in recent memory.
