"It was one of the greatest honors," Ellie Goulding wrote of her visit to Kyiv.
Ellie Goulding traveled to war-torn Ukraine at the weekend to speak at the First Ladies' Summit as a guest of President Volodymyr Zelensky and his wife, Olena.

The English singer explained in an emotionally charged Instagram post how she ended up in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, for the event.

Ellie Goulding posted a photo of herself talking to Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as other snaps from her visit to Ukraine.

In the lengthy caption, she said that in addition to her speech she also sang the "beautiful and powerful" Ukrainian song "Chervona Kalyna", a "song of resistance".
"This weekend I traveled as a guest of President Zelensky and the First Lady, Olena Zelensky, to Kyiv to speak at the First Ladies' Summit (and sing a little, somehow, while I was there I learned a beautiful and powerful song in Ukrainian , “Chervona Kalyna”, a song of resistance). It was one of the greatest honors," he wrote.

"I was determined to be there in person to pay tribute to the bravery and resilience of the Ukrainian people. I was inspired by many people, but especially by a young Fridays For the Future climate activist, Ilyess El Kortbi, whom I met at the nature and climate talks in Stockholm a few weeks ago,” he continued.

"Shocked by the invasion of his country, he nevertheless appeared at the UN talks determined to continue his work," he noted.

Ellie Goulding went on to say that through her role as a Global Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), she is constantly learning about the important work being done by Ukrainian scientists and climate experts.
“They remind me of the enormous contribution of Ukrainian climate scientists, renewable energy experts and environmentalists of all stripes. They live a horrible war financed by fossil fuels. They somehow find the fortitude to carry on, work and fight for all humanity,” he wrote.

Concluding her post, Ellie Goulding expressed her admiration for the resistance of Ukraine and its people in the face of Russian aggression.

“So I always knew that if given the chance, I would try to perform as well. On the night train to Kyiv I looked out the window and could see the endless fields, a reminder that Ukraine is the basket of the world, this bastion of culture, science and humanity is also a cradle of resistance, courage and devotion ", he emphasized.

“I can't tell you how exciting this trip has been. It's too much to put into words right now, but I stand in solidarity, in awe and respect, with the people of Ukraine," Ellie Goulding concluded.
