A Delay with a Big Surprise
Addressing speculation that his new song would drop on March 21, Sheeran explained that the release had been pushed back:
"To be honest, we've been a little behind on it. Something big came up, something that's going to help the song get even bigger. So, excuse me, but now we're talking about April."
New Album and Song Titles
Sheeran also confirmed that his new album is complete and will be released through Gingerbread Man Records, with distribution by Warner. Among the revealed tracklist, he mentioned that his favorite song, “Old Phone,” will be the fourth track on the album.
Additionally, he teased other song titles, including “Sapphire” and “Azizam”, and promised to release two new songs within the next two months.
When a fan asked which song he would recommend for a wedding, he cryptically responded:
"It depends on when you get married because there are a lot of new options coming soon."
A Return to Pop Music
The announcement comes just months after Sheeran hinted that his new album was already finished. He expressed excitement about his musical direction, stating:
"I feel like I'm returning to big pop music for the first time in a long time."
The album, rumored to be titled "Play," will be his first release since Autumn Variations (2023), which followed - (Subtract). Sheeran had previously declared that - would be the final album in his mathematical series, though he still plans to release ten albums with symbols, with the next five moving away from mathematical themes.
Tour and Future Projects
Sheeran is currently on his massive ‘+–=÷× Tour’ (Mathematics Tour), which will take him across Europe from May to September 2025, before concluding with performances in Bhutan, India, Qatar, and Bahrain.
Despite his busy tour schedule, Sheeran has remained creatively active. Following Autumn Variations, he released "Under The Tree," a festive song from the Netflix animated film That Christmas by Richard Curtis.
